Here’s a phenomenon I didn’t realized existed until I lived in Japan: Graduation kimonos. Makes sense, though, right? Formal occasion, formal wear. This year all female teachers presenting at my workplace elementary school graduation and half a dozen students, too, wore these hakama with the full on fancy hair and appropriate accessories. Much cooler than the school uniform. Much. Here’s a rental catalog for the older graduates. Pretty stuff.
